Even as a child, I always loved science and math, though I may not have been entirely aware that I was. I just loved experimenting with things to see how they worked - studying them, taking them apart and putting them back together. So naturally, when I got to college I gravitated toward science and math subjects, focusing my degree on them.
As I was searching for a hobby to keep me company on my long and stressful two-hour commute to work, I discovered jewelry-making. When I made my first pair of earrings using wire and beads, I was hooked. It started a love affair with beautiful beads and gemstones. I was also intrigued by the history of beads that were used in trade so my first designs were influenced by African art and jewelry making. Friends began to admire the jewelry I was wearing and making and they wanted to add pieces to their collection.
Eventually, I took a metalsmithing class to branch out in my designs. I instantly made the connection that science, technology and math play in the vital and important roles of metalsmithing. This class gave me everything I was looking for: technology, science, and creativity and I like hands-on work. I knew from the first time I picked up a hammer that this was my calling.
When I design my pieces, I do with women who love geometric shapes and contemporary styles in mind as my customers because you are phenomenal, beautiful, intelligent and have a tenacity to succeed.
Women who are also in visually-creative fields, such as architecture and interior design, will also be obsessed with my jewelry for its artistic elements. They are wearable works of art. Influenced by architecture, science and math, I use sterling silver, 14K gold with precious and semi-precious gemstones to create original pieces for customers who love beauty, fashion and feminine accents.
